Ready to learn to how to turn a bowl on the lathe?  This workshop is for you!

On Saturday August 14th, 2021 we will have expert woodturners Franck Johannesen and Steve Johns in our club shop teaching a hands-on bowl turning workshop.  

This event is for beginners who have just started learning to turn a bowl or have never turned a bowl before.    We strongly advise you have some basic woodturning experience at the lathe before joining this workshop.  Each student will be assigned their own lathe up to a maximum of 9 students for this workshop.

Each student will be provided a quality pre-rounded 8" x3" Cherry bowl blank as part of their admission cost.  Also included will be lunch/sodas from Downtown House of Pizza.

Instructors have asked that nobody bring their own tools as you'll be using the club shop tools.  This allows the instructors to provide a consistent educational experience across all of the students.  Yes, this means no carbide tools.   Everything will be taught using traditional HSS woodturning tools.

Your lesson plan for the day will include:

• how to properly mount a bowl blank on the lathe
• shaping the bow outside
• creating the chuck tenon
• hollowing the inside
• Proper finish cuts for a clean look

Correct tool handling and safe tool presentation will be taught and reinforced throughout the entire workshop.  Important tips and tricks to a successful bowl are always part of the lesson.

Time permitting, you'll also be able to finish your bowl using our low quality and quite-possibly expired club shop finishing supplies.  Every student gets to take home their finished bowl should it survive the educational process.    

Admission cost for this event is $50/student.
